2024 – bigger and better

Welcome to the 2024 Golden Oldies season. We’ve got an exciting change we’re hoping will attract more players and supporters to the fun, friendship and fraternity that is Golden Oldies rugby.

Friday night over 35s

Following a successful trial in November, Friday night over 35s kicked off with an even better night in March, with players from Blue Mountains, Blacktown, Raptors, and even Vincentia! (via Engadine). The match was officiated by Adam Lysle, who generously gives of his time to travel out west and help us on our journey to rebuild over 35’s rugby in the region. Played in a wonderful spirit, much fun was had, followed by some friendship and fraternity. 

The plan is to have roughly one Friday night game each month until September, in addition to the usual round of Sunday gala days the Legless Emus attend.

Each Friday night is run to a strict schedule: 6.30pm arrival, 7.00pm kickoff, 8.30pm speeches. This means those who need to get home due to kid’s activities on Saturday can be home at a reasonable hour. Or you can choose to hang around a bit longer and reminisce about that great side-step you put on to set up that try.

If you’re looking for a game that’s not too serious, come on down. Match fee is $5, which helps cover expenses e.g. physio. You must be a member of an over 35’s club to play (this ensures you have insurance coverage), so check out your local clubs to see what’s on offer. Playing member: $40

Associate Member (non-player): $20

Forty Years of Friendship – Penrith UK 2024

Some members are about to jet off for the FYF tour to Penrith, Cumbria. Celebrating the 40 year anniversary of the Penrith Emus tour to the other Penrith, the ‘Riff to the ‘Rith tour promises to cement the long-formed bonds and forge new friendships. We wish them safe travels and a marvelous time.

World Festival

The 2025 festival is to be held in Singapore from 6-13 April 2025. The Legless Emus have registered to participate. If you’d like to know more, details can be found on the Golden Oldies website.
