2026 – It will be oilright on the night

In a world of turmoil, one thing remains constant: the fun, friendship and fraternity that comes from Golden Oldies Rugby. This year sees the usual mix of Friday night matches and Sunday gala days to pull on the boots, have a run, and enjoy the camaraderie and banter both during and after the game.

Friday night over 35s

Learning from last year, the Friday night matches will avoid the cold winter nights, so there will be a gap from late June until the Friday before Father’s Day. This year we will have a game the night before Anzac Day, with an appropriate commemoration. The Friday before Father’s Day will be a family focused evening. Please mark both of these in your diary as ‘must-do’ dates.

Each Friday night is run to a strict schedule: 6.30pm arrival, 7.00pm kickoff, 8.30pm speeches. This means those who need to get home due to kid’s activities on Saturday can be home at a reasonable hour. Or you can choose to hang around a bit longer and reminisce about that great side-step you put on to set up that try.

Membership

2026 membership remains at $50, plus a match fee of $5 when you play to help cover expenses e.g. physio. You must be a current member to play (this ensures you have insurance coverage). You can pay online here, or on any game day (please arrive a little earlier to allow time).

Congratulations

And finally, congratulations to our 2026 President, Ian ‘Jolly’ Joliffe, who during the 2025 season became the first Legless Emu to pass 500 games of Golden Oldies Rugby with the club. It’s a significant milestone by any measure, and an honour well deserved by someone who consistently displays the three F’s of fun, friendship, and fraternity.
